A Letter from HOPE

Dear Friends:
At HOPE Ministries, we open “doors of HOPE” for families in poverty facing the
constant threat of homelessness. While meeting basic needs in our Client Choice
Food Pantry, we also seek clients ready for change & willing to work hard for a
better life. Most are treading water, in need of an extra nudge to propel them to
stability & success. With a Family Mentoring Program case manager, families
tackle self-identified goals to reach financial, housing & family stability. Each family's
needs differ, but all benefit from our Getting Ahead in a Just-Gettin’-By
World© course. This eight-week series is a precursor to a traditional financial
literacy course. Guided by the facilitator, participants “co-investigate” topics like
economic class & poverty, & delve into personal finance. Most importantly, Getting
Ahead provides tools that help our clients understand the methods & processes to
achieve independence.
HOPE Ministries is truly transforming lives. Doretha & Valerie, pictured
above, both used the lessons they learned at HOPE to take control of their finances
& define their own destinies. Doretha picked up some “soft skills” that helped her
go from a low-wage job to a management position that puts money in the bank for
her children’s future. Valerie improved her ability to manage her finances so much
that she raised her credit score by 200 points & bought her family’s first home last

Rising from poverty, crisis & tears, the families who find HOPE are taking the first
step on a bold walk in the direction of their dreams. You can help HOPE make
dreams come true. We can put gifts of all sizes to work.
A monthly giving commitment of:
- $98/month covers ½ the annual cost of the Family Mentoring Program for a family like Doretha’s
- $50/month pays for one client to take Getting Ahead & develop an action plan for economic stability
A one-time gift of:
- $36 buys two Getting Ahead participant workbooks
- $67 pays for a one-on-one professional financial counseling session for a client like Valerie
- $115 covers one month of security lights & alarm service to keep clients & volunteers safe at night classes
During this season of Lent, we are especially called to live out Jesus’ mandate to
